In two rounds, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been on hunger strike for better conditions in the prison for both herself and the other prisoners, and one of her demands was to be moved because she feared for her life. She wrote two open letters which created a huge debate in Russia about how prisoners are treated in Russian prison camps and prisons.

According to Russian prison system’s own website the prison in Alatyr is one of the best in Chuvashia.
