Qatar: Sculpture accused of anti-islamic idolatry and removed

Algerian conceptual artist Adel Abdessemed’s solo exhibition in Doha has outraged conservatives, leading to accusations of anti-islamic idoltary and the removal of his acclaimed work ‘Coup de tête’

The bronze sculpture depicting the moment when the French footballer Zinedine Zidane head-butted Italian Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final in Germany was removed from view outside the museum walls after a public outcry, with Muslim conservatives denouncing the work as “anti-Islamic” as reported on Al Jazeera.
