Iranian songwriter and poet Yaghma Golrouee was released on bail from detention on 9 December 2015 after being arrested on unclear charges on 30 November 2015, according to the Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA).
Though the reason behind the arrest is still unknown, it is thought that Golrouee was detained in response to his new music video showing footage of Iranian women talking about their struggle for equal rights, showing how they are still “happy and alive, despite being jailed,” according to The Telegraph.
The Times of Israel reports that the video for his song ‘Shere Rahai,’ meaning ‘Song of Freedom,’ shows images and footage of women enjoying their lives while Golrouee repeats the refrain: “We are covered in blood but we know that at the end of the story, we’re free.”
Upon his arrest, his wife, Athena Habibi, posted the following message on her Instagram page:
“The security agents came and searched all over our home and then arrested Yaghma Golrouee and took him away without telling us where they were taking him. We have not had any news about him since and are extremely worried about his health and safety.”
